Travel is among one of the most life-altering experiences a human being can experience. It brings you closer to understanding the world and everything that happens around you. But the downside to traveling is the associated costs. This is not to say it is impossible, you just have to find a way to do it right. Money should NEVER be the reason you give up on experiencing the joy of travel. You can always travel on a budget. Here are a few tips.

1. Buy a vacation package instead of taking individual visitsTourists using a travel map

Vacation packages include prices for multiple experiences. It may not seem like it, but prices for individual visits are usually two to three times more expensive. This is not always the case though… Make sure to check your options before signing up for a vacation package. Make sure you will be getting what you are paying for or better.

2. Share the cost with someone instead of going it alone

Sometimes, it is more fun sharing those memories with someone plus you will have someone to take your pictures. No talking to strangers. Stranger danger right? Well, not really… in some cases talking to strangers can lead to long-lasting relationships. Just exercise care. Always trust your gut!

3. Look for destination locations on Airbnb.com

Airbnb makes it easy for budget travelers to find a vacation to stay in. Usually, hotels can be on the pricier side, but with Airbnb, you can find a home for your budget. In addition, there are Airbnb hosts in every city, places where it would be hard to find hotels.

4. In cities where the option is available, look for hostels rather than hotels.

If you don’t have someone to share the cost with, a hostel is a great way to meet interesting people with the same travel goals and you, while saving a dime or two.

5. You don’t have to fly to your destination if you don’t have to

If a destination is close enough, and you have enough time on your hands, you can take an alternative mode of transport, like a bus or a train. It is often much cheaper than taking a flight, and chances are, you’ll have a view that you wouldn’t otherwise from a train. If you absolutely have to fly, finding an affordable plane ticket can be a pain. To find out how to get the cheapest flights available Click Here!

6. Find accommodation with complimentary meals.

Most places offer complimentary breakfast, while others provide two or more complimentary meals. Tourist destinations tend to charge more for everything including food, so if you are not traveling for food, save a dime or two by taking advantage of these areas that have complimentary meals.

7. Take advantage of free tours given.

Since you are traveling, why not get the full feel of the town by taking these tours? You’ll be saving quite a bit as compared to paying for a tour guide for the same experience.

8. Walk/Cycle if you can.

Tourist vacation packages can be really pricey. If it is an option, walk around, or cycle. Some tourist destinations offer bikes/ go karts/ scooters for rent. They are definitely way cheaper than a booked trip and a great way to get your work-out in. Plus you move at your own pace. Be sure to do your homework first and ensure that you are not violating any laws/ rules/regulations.

9. Use Travel Deal Sites

Sometimes, when push comes to shove, you might have to do a price comparison of different deal sites like Groupon, Travelzoo, secretescapes.com, TripAlertz, e.t.c. in order to get the best price. Sure, it can be a little tedious especially if you like instant results, but you’ll be surprised to know that you could save hundreds of dollars using this process. Totally worth it.

10. Call Around

Booking sites sometimes get a commission for every client they book through their sites. Which is why prices vary from site to site for the exact same room in the exact same hotel, at the same location. Once you have established the cheapest price for your room online, call the hotel and ask directly. Compare the hotel price to the online price and determine which price you like better.

11. Plan your trip waaaay in advance

The best way to get good deals is to book everything way in advance. The demand is not high and the supply is more than sufficient as compared to last minute especially during peak seasons. The companies are trying to start filling their quotas and will do anything to get this price started. This is when you get most deals. Sometimes, you may get good deals from companies that are trying to fill out their quotas at the last minute, but this is usually hit and miss. Mostly miss.

12. Pack Everything – Whether You think you need it or not.

It can be frustrating to miss an experience because you weren’t well prepared. Imagine having to buy toiletries or swimwear for double the price at a tourist destination area just because you forgot to pack them. It may not seem like a big deal, but soon enough it adds up. Have a checklist of whatever you need and go through it before leaving for your trip. You can also invest in a travel kit. They usually come in handy.

[…] Anytime I was ever single, the single most common piece of advice I ever received was, “Travel the world. This is the best time to do it.” And I agree with this piece of advice. There is a lot of planning and compromise that comes with traveling as a couple. As a single person however, you can trave the world to wherever, whenever, for however much, with whomever and for whatever. You can customize your travel experiences to your liking and change plans last minute without considering the needs of a partner. Travel as frequently as you can if you can. Here’s my piece of advice, do not let lack of finances stop you from traveling. If finances are a concern, read my article on how you can travel on a budget. […]
